Yes, I know V-Day is not until Thursday, but I think it’s never too early to talk about how much I hate Valentine’s Day. I’m sorry people, but compulsory romance is a contradiction in terms. It starts even as a little kid, with those stupid little cards in school … you know what I’m talking about. Popular kids get tons of Valentines, while others get few to none … or worse, kids are required to give them to every kid in the class, and then why are you even bothering? Oh yeah, the candy … well I suppose there are some benefits.
And lest you think I am just lonely and bitter, let me assure you that I have felt this way for years, even when I was very happily ensconced in a relationship. This year is an excellent example. I could not be happier … my boyfriend is The Greatest Guy In The Whole Wide World … and I still hate Valentine’s Day.
My feeling is, if you’re unattached, V-Day just feels like a big ol’ loserfest. And you’re in a great relationship (like I am now) then Valentine’s Day is totally unnecessary. This past weekend with Henry was so perfect it seriously felt like I was on vacation. V-Day has no Value Add for me.
So in honor of the Holiday I Hate The Most, here’s a link to the 20 Meanest Love Songs.
I can think of a lot worse holidays. Easter comes in at the top of the list.
Well here’s hoping you and yours have a great Valentine’s Day.
