Star Wars, Clowns, and Other Items from The Land of Miscellania February 10, 2008

It’s been a blog-posting frenzy … finally catching up on all the things I’ve been saving to write about. No promises that this means I’ll get back to posting more frequently, but at least you’ll have a few things to tide you over.

Star Wars look-alikes

Back in the day, Star Wars action figures were all the rage, apparently many of them unintentionally bear a strong resemblance to other celebrities. This list shows 10 of those figures and their celebrity look-alikes. I have to say, they’re pretty uncanny.

Clowns are Evil …

… and clearly I am not the only one who thinks so. This article is almost a month old, so you may have seen it already, but turns out that in a poll of British children, EVERY SINGLE ONE expressed a dislike for clowns. I have hated clowns for as long as I can remember. The movie Poltergeist only reinforced my hatred, but it existed long before that. To this day, I fail to find one redeeming quality of clowns. Once when I was about 12 on some really horrible church youth group retreat, we were forced to actually become clowns and then go to some shopping mall and walk around or something stupid like that … I think I blocked out much of the experience, although there is a photo of me somewhere putting on clown makeup with a very false uncomfortable smile on my face.

On a Happier Note … Cheese

Here’s an article from the Austin paper extolling the virtues of the grilled cheese sandwich. I have to admit, while gourmet versions may be very nice, I’m pretty much a purist in this area. Bread, butter, and good ol’ American cheese are still the ingredients I swear by. But just thinking about grilled cheese makes me happy … kind of like anti-venom for clowns. ;-)

You think fruitcake is a bad gift?

Check out the Bad Gift Emporium … these are actual gifts that viewers have received. You can even add your own bad gifts to the catalog. And if you have nothing to add, well then you can just be thankful and enjoy a good laugh.
